The Ministry of Housing says 380 Region Three residents have been given house lots at Tuschen as part of its $2B investment in the area, when the ‘One Stop Shop’ initiative was held at the Uitvlugt Community Centre on Tuesday.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Emile McGarrell, CEO of the Central Housing and Planning Authority Myrna Pitt and a team from the ministry, Region Three Chairman Julius Faerber and representatives from the financial sector, private home developers and hardware and furniture sectors. The lots were issued at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
“The Tuschen phase two development is 660 houselots, so you will have 660 homes in that area and more than 3,000 people will be living in phase two,” Ali said. To ensure that citizens benefit, it is critical that the Regional Democratic Council and Neighbourhood Demo-cratic Council have the capacity to manage the development, GINA said.
Ali noted that with the construction of new homes there will be tremendous expansion in the region involving the banking sector and the construction industry. Additionally, there will be more employment opportunities.
He said government has invested about $2B within the last eight years in Tuschen to foster its development. So far, $426M has been spent on this project.
In order to further expand the housing sector in the region, the ministry is focusing on the creation of 1,200 house lots at Zeelugt. Ali said it will soon start the land clearing exercise at that location.
