Contracts awarded for street lights along Corentyne Highway

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications recently awarded three contracts for the installation of street lights along the Corentyne Highway.

According to a Government Informa-tion Agency (GINA) press release lights will be installed from Stockholm to Crabwood Creek, Fyrish to Tain and New Amsterdam to Palmyra.

Traffic/Safety Engineer Nigel Erskine said that 190 photocell street lights will be installed along the 9.5 kilometres Stockholm to Crabwood Creek stretch at a cost of about $28M. In addition, 176 lights will be installed along the 8.8 kilometres Fyrish to Tain stretch at a cost of about $26M and 114 street lights will be installed along the 5.7 roadway from New Amsterdam to Palmyra at a cost of approximately $17M. Erskine noted that the duration of the projects is four months and the contractor is currently mobilizing resources.

According to GINA, at the start of the year street lights were installed along populated areas from Vreed-en-Hoop to Parika. Other areas on the West Bank Demerara road corridors were also illuminated.
