The Ethnic Relations Com-mission (ERC) met with hundreds of residents in regions, two and three, and in interior regions, one, eight and nine during a recent four-day visit aimed at promoting its mandate of national unity.
According to a press release ERC Chairman Bishop Juan Edghill accompanied by commissioners John Willems, Peter Persaud and Aleema Nazir and other staff members facilitated discussions and engaged these hinterland communities in activities that promoted harmony and good relations. Children, youth, women and men participated in the sessions.
Public education and awareness activities (the airing of films) were held for students at the Santa Rosa Secondary School where 146 pupils attended. At the Kamwatta Primary school 100 students attended, along with 100 pupils at the Karaburi Primary, 225 at the Waramuri Primary, 20 students at the Port Kaituma Primary and 80 at the Port Kaituma Secondary, about 150 pupils at the Monkey Mountain Primary/Primary Top, 125 students at the Arapaima Primary and about 250 students at the St Ignatius Primary School.
