Remanded over attempted murder at Land of Canaan

A man accused of attempting to murder another was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The allegation is that on October 30 at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, Martin Alfred unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ramesh Apponda with intent to murder the said Ramesh Apponda.

The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge of attempted murder when it was read to him by the magistrate.

Prosecutor Lionel Harvey made an application for the defendant to be remanded to prison.
The prosecutions request was granted and the unrepresented Alfred was later remanded to prison. His matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrates’ Court for December 3.
