Big improvements at Bagotville school after protest, head demoted

Following the protest by parents on Tuesday at the Bagotville Primary School, there have been improvements however the head-teacher has been demoted.

Olivia David, one of the parents who was part of the protest, told Stabroek News that workers from the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) today weeded the tall bushes at the back of the compound, removed the vines along the fence and cleaned the trenches in front of the compound.

Further, a plumber visited the school to assess the work that has to be done on the washrooms and is expected to begin work by next week. With regards to the lack of teachers, officials from the Ministry of Education visited the school and promised that on Monday a new teacher will be sent there.

“There has been a massive improvement,” said David and said that this will help to improve the environment for their children.

At the time of this newspaper’s visit, the current head-teacher was leaving the premises; she had received a letter from the visiting Ministry officials which informed of her removal from the school allegedly because of her lack of performance.
