The Ministry of Foreign Affairs tonight said that the Guyana Government has approved the re-opening of the Embassy of Argentina in Georgetown. A release from the ministry said that the approval follows a request by the Government of the Argentine Republic for the re-opening of its Mission here in Guyana.
Argentina first established an Embassy in Georgetown in 1980. It was closed in 1991.
“As Guyana continues to improve and strengthen its continental ties, the establishment of an Argentine Embassy in Guyana will augur well for relations between the two countries and also at the regional level. At the bilateral level, there would be the opportunity for forging links between the private sectors of both countries, as well as collaboration in the areas such as education and agriculture”, the release said.
Guyana and Argentina are members of several regional groupings, including the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), the Rio Group and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CALC), the ministry pointed out.
