Suspect in nurse attack appears on TV programme

Police are yet to apprehend the man who allegedly stabbed and burnt GPHC nurse, Ursula Houston but a day after the incident he appeared on television denying any involvement in the attack.

Houston was stabbed in the eye and doused with acid at the maternity ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital on Sunday night. Her alleged attacker, Woodrow Cadogan called ‘Thousand’ gave an interview to First Look News on Monday night saying he was “set up”.

Cadogan’s appearance on the newscast angered Houston’s relatives who said the police should have been called immediately when the man turned up to tell his story. “We want to know how they could let he go on TV and talk dem things about her”, a relative who identified herself as Abiola told Stabroek News yesterday.

Editor-in-Chief at First Look News, Claudette Fredricks when contacted today confirmed that Cadogan appeared on the newscast. Fredricks said the man strenuously denied he was involved and he had informed the reporter that he had gone to the police. According to her, efforts were made by the reporter to confirm that aspect of his story.

Fredricks said the newscast aired the story yesterday morning because Cadogan wanted the public to hear his side of the story. She said the man detailed the reasons as to why the relationship ended, and insisted that he had no part to play in the attack.

Houston, a resident of Laing Avenue, suffered burns to her face, left hand and other parts of her exposed upper body.
