Ministry to host four-hour domestic violence TV programme

On Sunday, November 21, 2010, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is to host a four-hour television event to mark International Day against Violence against Women which will be observed on November 25, 2010.
The Government Information Agency says the event will take the form of several panel discussions on a wide range of issues including the genesis of domestic violence, the interventions being taken by both Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to curb it and the services available to victims of domestic violence.
The programme will be broadcast live on the National Communications Network (NCN) from 7 pm and simultaneously on several other stations.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security Priya Manickchand is expected to be among the panelists, as well as representatives of the parliamentary political parties, NGOs, the Magistracy and survivors of domestic violence.

On November 25, there will be a rally at the Bourda cricket ground against domestic violence. Among those spearheading this event are former First Lady, Varshnie Singh, NGO representative Dianne Madray and Kaieteur News columnist Stella Ramsaroop.
