US in maritime security operation off Guyana, Suriname coasts

There is an increased maritime security presence on the coasts of Guyana and Suriname as a result of a multinational operation aimed at preserving the “legitimate activities of South American countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean,” the US Embassy in Georgetown said yesterday.

According to the release, the increased regional maritime security presence involves assets from the US, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands.  The activity is occurring in international waters in the Western Atlantic. “It will continue through the end of November,” the Embassy said.
