The Georgetown Hospital nurse/midwife who was allegedly stabbed and burnt by her former lover has been discharged from the hospital.
A hospital source told this newspaper that Nurse Ursula Houston, who was discharged from hospital on Saturday, was recovering well, but “is reluctant to speak to anyone” and is continuing to receive treatment at the hospital.
The source said the nurse was generally a quiet person and following the attack she became more withdrawn.
Attempts by this newspaper to speak to the woman were unsuccessful. When this newspaper visited her on Wednesday, Nurse Houston said she did not wish to speak. She then closed the door.
Meanwhile a senior police officer told Stabroek News yesterday that investigators are still searching for the suspect who has been identified as Woodrow Cadogan called ‘Thousand’. The officer added that he was unaware that the man had appeared on television.
Cadogan gave an interview to First Look News on Monday night saying he was “set up”.
Around 7:30 pm on Sunday, November 15, the suspect reportedly pounced on the woman as she stepped out of nurses’ room at Ward 5. He stabbed her over her left eye with a broken bottle before throwing acid on her. The man then fled.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Khan said in a brief interview the next day that the security personnel on duty at the time of the attack failed to perform their duties.
