Alcoholic found dead at Turkeyen

Residents of Pattensen, Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara were yesterday startled following the discovery of the lifeless body of a 71-year old man, described as an alcoholic.

Around 5 pm yesterday, a passer-by noticed the body of Mohabir Jaikarran, known as ‘Tucky’, lying on the ground outside a shop obliquely opposite the Caricom Secretariat and subsequently raised an alarm. When Stabroek News arrived on the scene, police conducted investigations as his particulars were being ascertained.

The father of three sought temporary lodging at a house opposite the Caricom Secretariat and a resident noted that he often imbibed at shops along the ECD. He was last seen walking along the roadway after lunch yesterday and it was noted that the man was disconnected from his family for more than a decade because of his drinking habits.

At Mon Repos, where the man’s relatives live, his daughter Devika told Stabroek News that her father and mother separated some 25 years ago. She said that it was his uncontrollable drinking which led to him being in the state he was prior to his death. She said that her father was nevertheless a well-loved person.

Jaikarran’s body is lying at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour and relatives plan to bury his remains later this week.
