Bus passenger found with gun

-court hears

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday refused bail to a man accused of having an illegal firearm and matching ammunition in his possession.
Trevor Murtley, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The charge was read to Murtley for him to enter a plea after the Administration of Justice Act was applied.

It is alleged that on December 19, in Georgetown, Murtley had in his possession one .32 revolver and three matching rounds of ammunition.

Police prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that police received certain information and acted. As a result, they stopped a minibus in which Murtley was a passenger. He was asked to disembark and a search was subsequently conducted on him and the revolver and ammunition were discovered, the prosecutor said.
Murtley was refused bail. He returns to Court Five on January 6.
