Bail for Tucville man accused of attempted armed robbery

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted $150,000 bail to a man accused of attempted armed robbery, when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. Keswan Stephen of  K 18,  997 Perry Street, Tucville, North Ruimveldt is accused of attempting to rob Ivelaw Eastman, while armed with a piece of iron. The incident allegedly occurred between August 19 and 20. Stephen pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that between the said dates Eastman, a taxi driver, had picked up the defendant and driven him to Diamond, East Bank Demerara. On completion of the journey, Stephen allegedly armed himself with the weapon and attempted to rob Eastman.

The prosecutor did not object to bail however, he asked that it be set at a substantial sum.

Stephen was then ordered to return to court on January 17 for statements.
