‘Gold Teeth’ charged biting cops

Lorenzo Sim, called ‘Gold teeth,’ 21, was remanded to prison yesterday after appearing in the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court on several charges, including armed robbery and assaulting a policeman.

Sim, of Lot 94 Plastic City, Jetty Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to charges of robbery under arms, larceny from the person and two counts each of resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer. Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin remanded him to prison.

It is alleged that on August 23, at the Jetty Squatting Area, while armed with a knife, Sim robbed Ken Sam of $32 000 and a cellular phone. It is also alleged that on November 9, at Vreed-en-Hoop, he snatched a cellular phone worth $50 000 from Debrina Gray. He had reportedly dashed into the Vreed-en-Hoop Community High School and snatched the phone, then escaped.

The matters were reported to the police but Sim proved an elusive suspect. However, on November 30, he was seen by two ranks who attempted to apprehend him. A scuffle ensued and he reportedly bit them. For this, he was charged with two counts each of resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.

According to police, Sim is a known character and he has several matters of a similar nature before the courts in Georgetown and Vreed-en-Hoop. He will return to court on January 13 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court.
