Boat robbed in Essequibo River

Boat captain Mohamed Afzane and his crew members were attacked by three men; two armed with guns, and robbed of their outboard engine and other valuables on Monday night in the Essequibo River.

At about 8.45 that night, police said in a press statement yesterday, Afzane, 32, and his employee were attacked and robbed by three bandits in the Essequibo River.

Investigations, according to police, have revealed that the victims were travelling in their boat to Parika, East Bank Essequibo, when in the vicinity of Palmyra another boat with the armed men pulled up alongside.

The perpetrators held up the two victims at gunpoint and took away a 40 HP outboard motor engine, a cell phone, wrist-watch and several articles of clothing and escaped. Investigations, police said, are ongoing.
