Fleeing bandits shoot at pursuers after River View hold-up

Minutes after robbing a River View businessman and his brother of a quantity of gold jewellery, two bandits on bicycles discharged gunshots at residents who attempted to chase them on Monday.

In a press release issued yesterday afternoon, police said they were investigating the armed robbery which occurred at about 7.05pm on Monday at River View, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

According to police, businessman Chris Seymour, 30, and his brother Ron Lam, 20, were in his shop at Riverview when two men, armed with handguns, entered and held them at gunpoint. The robbers relieved the brothers of gold jewellery they were wearing at the time and escaped on bicycles.

An alarm was raised and residents gave chase but were deterred after the men discharged two rounds.
When Stabroek News visited the area that night, residents said that as the gunmen fled on bicycles, heading east on Marigold Street, West Ruimveldt, they were being pursued by two men on a motorcycle. However, as they passed the West Ruimveldt Primary School, the robbers fired at least two shots from a small gun, residents said.

Several persons, who were “liming” on a street corner, told Stabroek News that they scampered into their homes when the shots were fired around 8 pm.

A police source told this newspaper yesterday afternoon that investigators were working on several leads which may lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
