A seven round swiss system rapid chess tournament will be played today in New Amsterdam. The sponsor of the tournament is A Ally, of the A Ally and Sons business enterprise  in New Amsterdam. Mr Ally is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of his business.

Chess players from throughout the country are invited to participate in the tournament. The Guyana Chess Federa-tion will be represented at the tournament by Errol Tiwari and David Khan. Khan will officiate as tournament director for the competition, and has advised that the tournament would begin sharply at 10am to facilitate players coming from Georgetown and elsewhere. Each game will last forty minutes, with each player having twenty minutes at his disposal to complete his moves. Lunch will be served to all participants, and trophies and cash prizes will be distributed to the top finishers by Mr Ally.

Players are requested to walk with their chess sets and clocks to complement those which will be provided by the Guyana Chess Federation.
