According to the South Florida Times, Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Barrington Russell Sr. and state Rep. Hazelle Rogers of District 94 joined Dr. Basil Mangra for the formal opening of Mangra’s new medical office on Oct. 5.

Those present for the ribbon cutting ceremony also included Albert Lettman, president of the Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce, and John Davis, president of the Lauderdale Lakes Chamber of Commerce.

“We have been serving this community for over 15 years and will continue to provide our patients with our traditional high quality medical care,” Mangra said in a release for the opening ceremony.

Mangra, who was born in Guyana, completed medical school and training at the University of Illinois, is a board certified medical doctor, and a professor of medicine at Nova Medical School.

The report says he has strong roots in the Caribbean American community, which, he said, was his reason for setting up his practice there. He is working on plans to open another location and hire more staff.
