Hatcheries which do not vaccinate should be closed down

Dear Editor,

It has been reported that there would be an imminent crackdown on chicken hatcheries for non-vaccinations. I think it is about time the government did this. I am a small poultry rearer and several times I purchased baby chicks only to find out at the end that these chicks had not been vaccinated and I had worked at a loss. These hatchery owners have been involved in this dishonest behaviour for too long at the expense of the customers who come to buy chicks from them. Feed for the chicks, among other things, is so expensive, so to work at a loss is unfair. When they find these hatcheries at fault the government should close them down for good.

Yours faithfully,
Colin Andrews
