Turn turtle

Turned turtle: Two persons had to seek medical attention yesterday morning after being involved in a three-vehicle smash up at the corner of Church and New Garden Streets. When Stabroek News arrived at the scene around 9 am, minutes after the accident, a sizeable crowd had already gathered and traffic had slowed to a crawl. One of the vehicles had turned turtle (see photo above) while the other two were on New Garden Street with serious frontal damage. One driver said she was heading east on Church Street when a silver-grey car proceeding north on New Garden Street did not stop at the major road. The visibly shaken woman said she crashed into the car which turned turtle and slammed into a black taxi that was heading south on New Garden Street. The logo on the taxi was concealed and this newspaper was unable to speak with the driver. The two occupants of the silver-grey car were rushed to the hospital and from reports one of them sustained a broken limb. The road was littered with shattered glass and car parts. Over the years there have been numerous accidents at this intersection when errant divers failed to obey the traffic signs painted on the roadway. (Zoisa Fraser photo)
