State witness shot dead

(Trinidad Express) – A man who was a state witness in a murder trial at the San Fernando Supreme Court was shot dead at his home on Thursday.

Jagdesh Mahadeo’s body was found under a bed at his Seventh Street, Dow Village, California, home around 12.30 am.

Police officers, responding to a report of gunshots inside his apartment, discovered the corpse.

Police believe that Mahadeo, 26, was asleep when someone broke down the front door and entered his downstairs apartment.

He was shot in the head, police said.

A relative, who asked not to be named said: “He was a state witness for his cousin’s murder and the accused was set free. I don’t know if his murder was linked to the case. We heard the gunshots and called the police. The officers found the body under the bed.”
The Express was told that Mahadeo had received several threats on his life.
