Dear Editor,

Several customers including myself were provided with misleading information by the GPL office at Anna Regina pertaining to queries about not having received their bills for the period Nov 9, 2009 to December 8, 2009.

I usually make payment for two separate properties and for the very first time only one bill was received. The blame for the missing bills which are sent by ordinary post was put squarely on the Suddie Post Office from which delivery in my area is made. Customers were advised to keep checking at the post office which the GPL office pointed out had been faced with a situation where not only GPL bills but other mail had been reported missing. But according to a senior employee at the post office such a claim was baseless and mischievous.

Just to have clarification on the issue, I made a telephone call to GPL head office in the city where I was told that there was a delay in the dispatching of some bills and that this would be done in due course.

The mere fact that the bills are posted directly from Georgetown meant that the district office was in no position to verify that this had been done, and the information given to customers therefore was misleading, while the aspersions cast on the post office were very unfair. The true position could have been easily ascertained if the district office had made contact with the head office, but apparently, this would have been too much hard work to do.

Yours faithfully,
Baliram Persaud
