This PNCR General Council is being held at a critical moment

Please allow me to take time out to wish the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) every success in their first General Council Meeting for 2010. As we meet to review the party’s plans and programmes let us be reminded that this General Council is being held at a crucial juncture of our party and country. It is therefore, imperative that we remain focused on those matters key to the advancement of the PNCR and the People of Guyana. Our deliberations and decisions must take into account the many unwarranted realities that now seem to represent what is normal in Guyana. The party’s continuous and determined role in highlighting and confronting the backward, discriminatory and victimizing policies of the PPP/C administration must be sustained and bolstered, with renewed courage and determination. As we examine the state of affairs of our nation let us resolve to stay the course to fight injustice, and lawlessness. The party’s leadership, and stance, on the issue of local government reform is indicative of the kind of leadership we are expected to demonstrate in the interest of the nation, and in respect for our constitution.

We must leave this General Council with a mission to ensure that every Guyanese understands the importance of the need for local government reforms before local government elections. Financial constraints cannot be used as an excuse for falling short of constitutional requirements.

Let me close by urging all Guyana to take a stand on ensuring the constitutional requirements are met before any elections are held, this is our civic responsibility.

Yours faithfully,
Lurlene Nestor
