The Pegasus has violated the Trade Union Recognition Act

Dear Editor,

Please permit me to express the union’s disappointment and surprise at the rude and unprofessional behaviour meted out to CCWU and Labour Department officials by the Pegasus Hotel’s new owner, Mr Robert Badal. The Pegasus workers are holding out in the face of continuing anti-union assaults. Mr Badal has violated the Trade Union Recognition Act 1997 and ILO Convention 98 Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949. This is downright union-busting and blatant anti-union action directed against unionised hotel workers. The CCWU strongly condemns the Pegasus Hotel and Mr Badal for breaching the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The CCWU has called upon international trade union affiliates to pledge solidarity. The union will be planning a campaign and we will request press coverage around the world in relation to the Pegasus Hotel and its union-busting tactics.

Yours faithfully,
Sherwood Clarke
Field Secretary CCWU
