When will the new market, fire station in Bartica be opened?

Dear Editor,

The government has spent millions of dollars to build a new hospital at Bartica, but to date not an operation has been performed there. It has an operating theatre, but it is not functioning, so most cases have to be transferred to Georgetown every week. We are long overdue for surgeons and a gynaecologist  to be stationed at Bartica which will be a town soon – maybe?

The government also spent millions again to build a fire station, but there are no fire engines or firemen; the building looks like it is a haven for vandals. When will this fire station be officially opened?

We also have a new market, so when will a government minister declare it open by cutting a ribbon and placing a plaque on it?

Minister Robeson Benn was here in February. He was on a television  live call-in programme and a caller asked him for another steamer day – Tuesday. He agreed to this and promised another steamer day, and now we, the business people of Bartica, are waiting on that day which will assist ourselves and the miners a lot. We are hoping it will start by May 4.

While thanking the Minister for his promise and for the speedboat passengers’ waiting room in Bartica, perhaps he could now see what he could do for us at the Parika end.

Yours faithfully,
Winston Miller, Sr
