18.1% decrease seen in fatal accidents – police

The Guyana Police Force has recorded an 18.1% decrease in fatal accidents for the year up to the end of February.

In a brief statement on Friday, the force noted that speeding, inattentiveness and pedestrians crossing in the path of approaching vehicles were the main causes of fatal accidents.

It also said there was a similar decrease in serious accidents and decreases in both minor and damage accidents.

Meanwhile, the statement added that there were 14,777 legal cases made by the police for the period, with speeding (2,935), failure to wear a seatbelt (1,171) and failure to conform to signs (809) being among the most prevalent.
