GWI manager took time to explain to customers

Dear Editor,

The Manager at GWI’s office in Anna Regina must be commended for implementing an easy payment plan for customers in the area who are in arrears. While I was there, it was heartening to hear him explaining to defaulting customers who had been disconnected or threatened with disconnection that instalment payments could be made to liquidate the amount owing instead of being under pressure to pay all at the same time. Once this process was adhered to, the Manager said that there would be no disconnection, with the reconnection fee of some six thousand dollars going towards payment on the outstanding amount.

Old age pensioners in particular, including myself had converged at the office to ask how come they were being billed to make payments when they were entitled to a free water supply from government. But it was explained that once water use exceeded the annual amount government was paying, the difference had to paid by the customer.

Customers were reminded that their payment was important in order to bring about improvements within the service, which was for their own benefit as well.

Yours faithfully,
