Still waiting for landlines in La Parfait Harmonie

Dear Editor,

I am a resident of the new housing scheme at La Parfait Harmonie on the West Bank of Demerara.

GT&T came to this area approximately three years ago; they took the names and addresses of all the people living here at that time, and everyone assumed they would have got a landline service shortly afterwards. Since then we have not heard or seen anyone from GT&T.

We know at that time not many houses had been built, but now there are hundreds of homes and we need a landline service.

All the homes over here have two or three cell phones, but the service is not as good as a landline phone, moreso with the cheaper overseas rates to more countries. A landline phone would serve our homes better. My husband, for example, who is partially blind would be able to keep in contact with many of his relatives living in the USA, England, Trinidad and Canada.

All the villages bordering us have a landline service – La Grange, Bagotville and Canal # 1.

We have been waiting a long time.

Yours faithfully,
C Simon
