SN editorial was divisive

Dear Editor,
I refer to the Stabroek News editorial on Monday, September 6, titled ‘The Buxton visit,’ where an attempt was made to politicize President Jagdeo’s recent visit to Buxton. The government has, as a matter of policy, over the years sought to galvanize this nation so that we may realize our dream of truly becoming ‘one people, one nation one destiny.’ However, one cannot divorce any such attempts from the responsibility of the people themselves in making sure this dream becomes a reality. Having said that, the media’s role in this cause is vital, and so Stabroek News instead of riding on this wave of goodwill in our country is seeking to play the role of ‘spoiler.’

Stabroek News has long been against the PPP/C government for its pro-working class policies as opposed to the concentration of wealth in one section of the society, and it is for this reason that they will rally and find fault in any positive development in our country.

It’s therefore not surprising that the Stabroek News through the editorial panders to the racists in our midst in an effort to be divisive.
Yours faithfully,
Dave Martindale
