Twenty computers were given to the village of Buxton by President Jagdeo this week at a follow-up visit to the community. The residents of Buxton also benefited from the donation of steel pans, as they welcomed the President, and discussed ways of better developing the community.
Buxtonians are being shown that like other citizens, they are all Guyanese, headed by a President who holds at heart, the common interest of all of his people. Through the Jagdeo administration, forty Buxton women were approved by GBTI for Women of Worth (WOW) loans and President Jagdeo pledged to ensure that other women who needed assistance but did not qualify for these loans, would receive other forms of assistance to ensure the betterment and development of Buxton on an individual as well as a community level. Through this initiative, computer literacy in children and adults will be improved. The President also promised that Buxton would benefit from the ‘one computer per family programme,’ which should be launched in the “not too distant future.”
As the President strengthens relations with Buxton, it is no wonder that those who oppose his administration object to any ties between the PPP/C and the people of the village. The history of Buxton tells that it is traditionally, a PNC stronghold. However constant exposure to President Jagdeo and the PPP/C does not augur well for these oppositionists, since this could realign their perspectives, and possibly restructure their way of thinking about politics, the President, and ultimately, the political parties.
