Violence against women is one of the most destructive manifestations of gender inequity that has ever evolved. It’s a serious problem and is linked to strong patriarchal traditions and male dominance in daily life. No matter what country women live in, no matter what religion they belong to, or what age they are, they have at least one thing in common: They are potential victims of violence.
Violence against women is a global issue. The elimination of violence against women and children requires national solidarity – a coalition of individuals and organizations. There are pastors, pundits and imams; these religious leaders should become a viable voice to stop violence against women and children. Too many women and children are being exploited. Women and children are being abused not by strangers but by the very persons who are supposed to be protecting and loving them.
Violence against women and children hurts ‘everyone.’ When a female is beaten or raped, it hurts all of us. We need to put a stop to this! What will it take for us all to say “Enough! We will not tolerate this any more”? We are all hoping for the best and for the future of our children.
The funny thing is we are not helpless or powerless; we can do something about it, and we must all stand in solidarity to stamp violence against women and children out.
