Why can’t GT&T allow cheap phone calls at weekends?

Dear Editor,

GT&T has phone calls that allow cheap calls to the US and Canada (not UK) after ten o’clock at night. It’s very good of GT&T to give this concession, but why can it not include the weekends. In London in the sixties cheap calls were allowed from 6 pm, Friday to 6 am, Monday.

Obviously there was no clash of commercial and domestic interest in the way they thought.
Fifty years later with the progress telecommunication has made, we still can’t get dirt cheap calls out of Guyana.
With three-quarters of all Guyanese living in the UK, US, Canada and the Caribbean, we need to call and say ‘thank you’ for the remittances.

Yours faithfully,
G. Pat Walcott
