Dear Editor,
The letter published on October 31written by P Jawahir about schoolboys being held by a farmer, should be of grave concern to parents whose children attend that private school (‘A law unto himself?’). Ms Jawahir went into detail about what the children experienced at the hands of the farmer and perhaps she could say why the school sent the children to obtain dried coconuts from the community with no teacher to supervise them. Did the person who sent them try to get information from some of the workers in the school compound as to where they could send children to collect dried coconuts, and ask them first before they send the children? Or why didn’t the school pay someone to gather the coconuts instead of sending people’s children out unsupervised?
Editor, a school is solely responsible for children during the period they are there. They should never send children to do errands especially when it involves them being on the road, or if they do, then a teacher or adult should be with them.
Apparently, they never enquired where they could send the children directly to collect the coconuts, and thus the boys wandered into another village.
