Diamond New Scheme roads need continuous maintenance

Dear Editor,

Many of the NDCs in Guyana seem to operate in a reactive mode. I  live in Diamond New Scheme and it pains me to see roads without any potholes eventually develop  little holes that grow gradually into potholes.

This type of problem could be avoided by the NDC by ensuring a road maintenance crew is always doing patchwork.
In many cases there are no such crews operating. Is it a case of penny wise and pound foolish in the thinking of the people  at the NDC level?
There are frequent meetings, statutory at that, and I am not sure that proper service is meted out to the communities.

This NDC boasts of being one of the best in the region, this is in connection to collecting of garbage and house tax collection.
Our local leaders need to think in a proactive way and to ensure that the infrastructure in the communities is properly maintained.

It would be good if all the roads can be assessed and maintenance works carried out. It should not be a case of waiting for central government to  intervene when the situation gets beyond what the NDC can handle owing to finance and equipment.

Yours faithfully,
