Noise nuisance case won

Dear Editor,

Magistrate Latchmin of the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court has found Mr Maurice Sookhoo, proprietor of Starlite Drive-In, guilty of noise nuisance following a complaint made to the police by Mr Roshan Khan of Atlantic Gardens, on May 16, 2009.

This is a significant ruling and is very symbolic.  People need to report noise nuisance to the police, provide statements and go for the long haul in the courts in order to be successful.  Noise nuisance is destructive to people’s health and well being, and prevents children from studying and working people from resting.

Mr Roshan Khan is extremely grateful to all the newspapers and television stations which published letters and interviewed him on noise nuisance, and in particular on the noise at the Starlite Drive-In.

Mr Khan also wishes to inform media houses that he has taken a decision to file contempt charges against the Starlite Drive-In and its proprietor, the promoter and all sponsors of the last vulgar and noisy show held at the Starlite Drive-In on November 6, 2010.

Yours faithfully,
Roshan Khan
