Chimney Road, Chateau Margot is now a dangerous road

Dear Editor,

Chimney Road which straddles Chateau Margot and joins the East Coast Highway at its northern end and the Railway Embankment Road at the southern end is becoming a very dangerous road. It could have boasted its first ever fatal accident yesterday afternoon, when a Route 44 minibus from BV village nearly bulldozed a young mother pushing her baby in a pram.

This erstwhile peaceful hamlet is being transformed into a near metropolis, as not only in the mornings but throughout the day and even late into the evenings one can witness vehicles of all types, including large, loaded, heavy-duty trucks recklessly racing at top speed to reach the East Coast Highway or the Railway Embankment. The speed limits and signs are totally ignored.

I am respectfully requesting the Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn to give consideration to constructing at least four road humps (sleeping policemen) at various strategic points along this now busy road.

I remembered just a few years ago I walked nonchalantly in the middle of this road,  explaining to a visitor some of the history of that famous chimney that stood majestically in this erstwhile village for over one hundred years – with no vehicles to disturb us.

Another thing, for the attention of the Minister of Home Affairs: This village now boasts of several ‘bottom house’ rum shops. Would he kindly look into this.

Yours faithfully,
