GAPLF shortlist 17 lifters for Caribbean powerlifting c/ships

The event will be held under the auspices of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) and the North American Powerlifting Federation (NAPF) and will be held at the Princess Buddy’s Hotel from March 18 – 20.

The technical meetings of the NAPF as well as the AGM of the body and the farewell banquet will also be held at the Princess Buddy’s Hotel.

This year’s tournament is expected to attract more countries and athletes than last year.

At last year’s championships held in Acapulco, Mexico only four countries and some 40 athletes participated.

The GAFP has named among the 17 lifters, the Regional Open and Masters Powerlifting champion, John Edwards and the Caribbean’s best lifter in the 82.5 kilogramme class Randolph Morgan along with the experienced Mervyn `Spongy’ Moses and veteran lifter Winston Stoby.

The lifters shortlisted are:

Berbice – Vijai Rahim, Wazeem Immandeen, Tariq Immandeen, Anis Ade Thomas, Farouk Abdul, Kelvin Lewis and Mohamed Rossan.

Demerara
– ‘Big’ John Edwards, Mervyn ‘Spongy’ Moses, Randolph Morgan, Winston Stoby, Karel Mars, Ryan Williams, Paul Adams, Rawlston Watson and Errol Henry.

The final selection will be announced following the Annual Awards ceremony to be held on January 17at the Tropical View Hotel, Campbellville.
