Charles, Hinds give B/dos slight advantage

Charles captured four wickets for 46 runs from 14.1 overs, and Hinds took three for 41 from 16.2 overs, as the CCC were dismissed for 213 in their first innings.

Barbados then reached 33 for one at the close on the opening day of the second round match at Grove Park.

The CCC’s total was built around Nekoli Parris’ solid 47, and an obdurate unbeaten 45 from Romel Currency, but the tournament’s early, joint-leaders were unable to gain control after choosing to bat.

The exchanges were evenly shared in the morning session that saw CCC going to the break at 67 for two, but Charles turned the tide in Barbados’ favour with three of the four wickets in the afternoon period.

Parris, who faced 99 balls and struck six fours, gave a catch to forward short-leg that started a mini collapse in which three wickets fell for nine runs.

Among the wickets was captain Floyd Reifer for duck. He was undone by a good ball from fast bowler Kemar Roach that resulted in a catch to forward short-leg off the inside edge.

Throughout the fall of wickets, Currency held firm, batting responsibly for close to four hours in which he faced 179 balls and hit a single boundary.

Currency was missed on 29, when Hinds put him down at second slip off Pedro Collins, who had earlier provided Barbados with their first wicket.

After CCC slipped to 133 for six, Currency found a useful partner in Ryan Austin and the pair added 48 for the eighth wicket.

The stand was broken by Hinds, who had Austin caught at slip for 19. The Barbados captain followed with two quick wickets before Charles wrapped up the innings.

Both teams made one change from their line-up that contested the opening round of matches in Jamaica.

CCC brought in leg-spinner Gavin Wallace for fast bowler Khismar Catlin, and Barbados included fast bowler Tino Best at the expense of batsman Kyle Hope.

CCC are the early joint leaders along with Jamaica on 12 points, following a 151-run victory over Trinidad & Tobago in the opening round at Jarrett Park. Barbados are fourth on three points, after they conceded first innings points in their drawn opening match against Leeward Islands in the first round at Kensington Park.
