The highly anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federa-tion (GABF) will finally be held on Sunday, February 14, Acting President David Patterson said yesterday.

Contacted by Stabroek Sport, Patterson  said the decision came after a meeting with the Linden and Georgetown Amateur Basketball Associations on Sunday last.

The last GABF elections were held in 2005 and were proposed again for last April by former President Colonel Godwin McPherson.

After McPherson sadly passed away Patterson who was his deputy since in the 1990s took charge and had rescheduled the AGM for last November but recently said that it had to be revised because internally, the present administration had some areas of concern that had to be looked at seriously, hence the new date.

“We  met last Sunday where we had a full house, you know all the executives turned up and we have set the elections for February 14. Apart from that I think that our discussions at that meeting were fruitful and we are all looking forward for the AGM next month,”  Patterson said.

The president of the two associations Trevor Rose (Georgetown) and Abdullah ‘Zico’ Hamid (Linden) told Stabroek Sport that they are glad that the long-awaited AGM will be held next month.

“I think it would be a great start for basketball,”said Rose, adding that “we had a very good meeting yesterday (Sunday) where we spoke about other stuff about basketball and development and yea I’m glad that we can get the elections over and done with.”

Hamid said that the elections would mean a lot to him and his association since in order for them to make progress   “it is important to properly put your house in order. It’s only so much we could do at this moment, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

In a previous interview with Stabroek Sport, Patterson hadsaid that if nominated for the presidency he will accept since he would love be at the top of the game.

Meanwhile  Patterson disclosed that Guyana will be represented at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) AGM which is scheduled for January 30 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI).

“Well yes, we will be going to Tortola for that meeting because it’s very important for us to attend, so myself along with Mr. Hamid (Zico) will be attending that meeting because we discussed it at the meeting we had and it was agreed that we shouldn’t miss it so we need to be up to speed with what’s going on around us, so again, we will be going,” said Patterson.
