GFA to be assisted by IMC for three months

For the next three months an Interim Management Com-mittee (IMC) implemented by Guyana’s governing body for football, Guyana Football Federation (GFF), will be dealing with the management of football in Georgetown following an emergency meeting held by the federation last week.

Noel Adonis

The meeting primarily targeted the issue of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) failing to carry out their elections in the specified time given. The election was scheduled to be held in June of 2009.

According to GFA’s constitution when such a matter arises it is mandatory that an IMC be put in place to assist the association.

The IMC that was established on January 14 has a life span of three months and consists of Gordon Gilhuys, Odinga Lumumba, Adepemo Peters, Vernon Burnette and Aubrey Henry.

However, Stabroek Sport spoke with GFF’s General Secretary, Noel Adonis, who said “we are going to decide who will lead the IMC during the meeting scheduled later today (yesterday).”

Adonis stated that it became necessary to take action in implementing the IMC after the GFA was given a grace period after June to carry out their elections and did not do so. “During the period of August to December we were in constant contact with the GFA and gave them up to December to complete the task but nothing was done,” he said.

Added to that he said this committee is also to help the association and football in the city move forward.

When this newspaper tried to contact the GFA boss to get their side of the story he was unreachable up to press time.
