Andy Wong of Bartica can boast that he is the king of the Joe Vieira Park after the teen dominated the INXS Performance motocross ‘Hot Track’ Grass Track meet Sunday last at the Schoonard, West Bank Demerara facility.

Scores of persons lined the roadway to witness some of the country’s top track riders go at it in what was INXS’ first ever meet and one which their ‘head hunter’ Christopher Small believes will see many more following.

The day certainly belonged to Wong who copped the first Pro-Race convincingly beating a determined Junior Da Silva into second place with Bobby Ramson third.

Riding on a newly crafted ‘Q’ track at the Joe Vieira Park, Wong had his competition ‘eating dust’ for all of the race as he skillfully sped to the front from the start and as they say, the rest was history.

Though Da Silva was good on the throttle, Wong’s bike was superior and the Bartician was also very skilful on the rough terrain.

For his first win, Wong pocketed $20,000 while Da Silva copped $12,000 and Ramson $8,000.

Wong continued his dominance on the track with Da Silva just behind him in all the other races much to the delight to the scores of spectators on hand.

In the feature race of the day, the 16 year-old Da Silva looked set to take down Wong but flattered to deceive.

From the starter’s signal the two riders went back and forth before Wong said “enough was enough” in the sixth lap and firmly took control of the race and never looked back.

He was heavily supported at the venue and at the conclusion praise was heaped upon the youngster for his winnings.

Da Silva on the other hand though disappointed that he didn’t get the chequered flag, was happy with his performance. Meanwhile Da Silva’s younger brother Jerry, who is just 13 year’s old also enjoyed a good day, winning two novice races. Also in winners’ row was Raj Ramkarran.
