The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has named some of the country’s top junior racquet wielders to prepare for possible selection on Guyana representative national teams to the two upcoming championships next month in Puerto Rico.

The Caribbean Table Tennis Championships for Pre Cadet (13 years and 10 years and under) championships is scheduled for March 27 – April 2 while the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships for Junior and Cadet (18 years and under 15 years and under) will run from April 2 – April 8.

Both tournaments will be staged in the town of Utuado, Puerto Rico.

According to a release from the GTTA, while most of the details as to the final representative members are already completed the association will make final assessments in the 10 years and under boys and girls’ teams, 15 years and under boys team and to a lesser extent the 18 and under boys and girls’ teams.

The release also stated that the upcoming Mashramani competition and training will weigh heavily when making the final selections.

“The key focus is to have our best players representing Guyana,” the release stated.

While a team is expected to consist of four players, general secretary Godfrey Munroe said the tournament organisers have given the GTTA a bit of latitude with the provision of two additional players per category in both the Pre Cadet and under and the 18 and under for doubles and singles play.

Though Guyana will be defending the Caribbean boys’ 10 years and under title won last year, the players on last year’s winning team, Elishaba Johnson, Kyle Edghill and Rajiv Muneshwar are no longer eligible.
