Oscar Shew Memorial TT tournament on this week-end

Table tennis players 21 years and under will be in action this week-end when the Oscar Shew Memorial mini-cadet, cadet, juniors and 21 and under tournament is staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

According to a pres release, the knockout tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

The five-division tournament will commence at 4pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

The tournament is being staged by the Guyana Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the National Sports Commission “in its effort to promote table tennis countrywide,” the release stated.

Oscar Shew passed away in February 1999 and in a tribute his son, sports enthusiast, Manniram Persaud, of Shew’s General Store, decided to sponsor the tournament.

The divisions to be contested are:

10 years and under boys & girls (mini cadet)

13 years and under boys & girls (pre cadet)

15 years and under boys & girls (cadet)

18 years and under boys & girls (junior)

21 years and under Open – (youth)

A player must be of the stipulated age on or before the 31st December 2010

Interested players can contact any member of the GTTA.

The deadline for submitting entries will be 4.30pm on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports hall.

Trophies and medals will be given to the first three finishers in each category.
