Reggae Boy Euell keeps Blackpool in playoff hunt

Relishing in his first start for the Seasiders in a month, the 33-year-old Euell made the most of the opportunity, scoring in the 54th minute at home at Bloomfield Road.

Both sides then squandered opportunities to add more goals to the contest as Blackpool moved to 52 points in seventh spot, staying ahead of Coventry City who also earned a similar 1-0 verdict over Peterborough in other League Championship action.

With scores locked nil-all at half-time, Euell separated the two teams nine minutes after the break with a clinical finish.

Midfielder Charlie Adam’s throw fell to the former Charlton striker at the back post who made little mistake in steering the ball past goalkeeper Brian Murphy.

In League One, Jamaica-born Canadian international Simeon Jackson scored a goal in either half as Gillingham continued to edge away from the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Playing at Priestfield Stadium in England’s south-east, Jackson scored early in each half to move to 17 goals for the season and help the hosts to only their second win in 13 league outings.

Jackson, who turns 23 later this month, was on target in the seventh minute when he unleashed a 25-yard cracker to put Gillingham ahead.

Huddersfield were reduced to 10 men in the 25th minute when winger Nathan Eccleston was red-carded for a tackle and the man advantage saw Gillingham increase their domination.

They had to wait until the first minute of the second half to add to their tally, however, as Jackson got onto the end of a long clearance from defender Darren Dennehy and produced a clinical finish to wrap up the points.

He then missed two glorious chances to complete his hat-trick.
