Some of the top race horses will battle for top honours today in the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s Phagwah race meeting at the Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne race course.

Six races are carded for the day’s programme with the feature being for houses classified ‘E’ and lower over a distance of six furlongs for the Stella and Charles Kennard Memorial stakes.

The winner will receive a top prize of $220,000 and the Mala Matadial Memorial trophy.

Among the horses entered are World Class, Laura Lee-in-flight, Fresh Prospect, Sea Rock, Debatable and Sweet Revenge.

There are also two races for ‘G’ class horses, the first being over five furlongs and is sponsored by leading mobile telecommunications company Digicel.

The winner will receive $180,000 and the Digicel Trophy.

Another feature will be   for ‘I’ Class horses over seven furlongs sponsored by Demerara Distillers Ltd. (DDL) for a first prize of $140,000 and the Eldorado trophy.

Listed to compete in this event are Casino Royal, Star Streak, Clear Victory, Miss Bounty, De Gump Power Master, Stormy Water and Lyana.

President of the Kennard’ Memorial Turf Club, Justice Cecil Kennard said the other races are for ‘I’ three, divisions 2 and 3 (K and L) and ‘G’ class horses.

These races will run over a distance of seven furlongs for stakes sponsored by contractor Anirude Ramchitar and Guyana Furniture Manufacturing Co. for a first prize of $180,000 and the Harry ‘Putch’ Memorial Trophy.

According to Justice Kennard, an exciting day of racing is anticipated as several top horses have entered for the one-day programme.

The first event starts at 13:30 hours.
