Courts Guyana Inc. has donated a cheque for $150,000 to the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) to aid in its hosting of the North American and Caribbean Power lifting Championship from March 19 – 21 at the Princess Hotel.

Courts Marketing Executive Molly Hassan yesterday handed over the cheque to Treasurer of the GAPF, Monty Livan in the presence of members of the Guyana team and the Federation at the company’s Main Street branch.

Hassan said: “The Powerlifting Federation has been working seriously to promote events throughout the Caribbean and I know some of the members attending overseas championships are doing extremely well and we are very pleased to be of great support to the federation, especially for this championship.”

“Besides our corporate social responsibility, we do recognise that the federation has made a significant move in terms of showcasing Guyana and placing us on the competitive market as it relates to the sport,” she  added.

In closing she noted that it is a known fact that the Guyanese team has winners, “so we are very happy to support this initiative and are looking forward to further events in working with the federation.”

Livan in a  brief reply expressed gratitude on behalf of the federation and promised that the team led by John ‘Big John’ Edwards, Randolph Morgan and Mervyn ‘Spongy’ Moses will perform to make sure that the title stays in Guyana.
