Proctor heading small team to regional games

THE  VALLEY, Anguilla, CMC – High jumper Shinelle Proctor is part of three-member squad named by track and field officials here to represent Anguilla at the CARIFTA Games scheduled for the Cayman Islands next month.

Proctor, the younger sister of Anguilla’s premier field athlete Shara Proctor who has been performing outstandingly for the University of Florida, will be accompanied by sprinter Zharnel Hughes and long jumper Ricio Welch.

Shinelle Proctor is currently attending the University of Illinois on a full athletic scholarship from the national track and field programme. She holds the national women’s high jump record of 1.70 metres and was good enough to claim bronze at the Games in St Lucia last year.

Hughes will contest the 100 and 200 metres.

Lime Anguilla, the regional telecommunications giants, have thrown its financial support behind the team.
