Haier Cup off to electrifying start

Georgetown Cricket Association’s Haier Cup second division tournament got off to an electrifying start on Saturday with Demerara Cricket Club’s (DCC) Jamal Hinckson scoring the first century while Everest Cricket Club’s Javed Rasheed picked up a five wicket haul all on the first day.

Hinckson scored 124 which included 11 sixes and eight fours while he was supported by 31 from Kester Hardcourt and an undefeated 29 from Jahron Byron as their team reached 214-2.

Earlier, Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) made 209-8 from their 40 overs with Dexter Solomon making 64 and Collis Butts 40 not out.

Over at the Ghandi Youth Organisation (GYO) TSC thrashed Ace Warriors by 212 runs.

TSC amassed 346-9 with Captain Shawn Massiah top scoring with 77 while Stephon Sampson and Shafief Ishmael contributed 49 and 42 respectively.

When Ace Warriors replied they were routed for 134 in 23.2 overs with Victor Bacchus, Delon Azore and Akeem Williams contributing 39, 29 and 22 respectively.

Police Sports Club’s Rawle Browne missed out on a century against MSC. Playing on the MSC ground PSC batted first and made 175 all out from 26.3 overs. In response MSC’s skipper stroked nine fours in his 67 along with Delon Moffat, who made 45 as their team reached 176-7 from 39.1 overs.

Additionally, Everest and DCC have recorded first round victories along with Transport Sports Club (TSC), Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the University of Guyana.
