The New Line Cavaliers cricketers yesterday hoisted the winning trophy at the end of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) competition held at the DCC ground, Queens-town.

The competition was scheduled to be a 10/10 one but it was revised to a 15-overs-a-side affair in an effort to provide more entertainment for the fans.

The four-team 15/15 competition featured teams from DCC, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Everest and the New Line Cavaliers.

In the final the Cavaliers went up against a strong GCC lineup which included Leon Johnson, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Tyrell Tull, but captained by Gajanand Singh and with West Indies all rounder Narsingh Deonarine leading the Cavaliers, they won by 10 runs.

Batting first the Cavaliers made 153 all out with Deonarine blasting 54.

GCC chasing the 154 for victory reached 143-7 when the overs expired.

Vishal Singh and Sarwan topscored for GCC with 43 and 29 runs respectively.

Deonarinae was adjudged man of the match.

Prior to their outstanding performance in the final the Cavaliers scored a 41-run victory against Everest in the first of two semi-finals.

Everest won the toss and like GCC sent the Cavaliers in to bat first. Cavaliers reached 142-6 with the help of Orin Forde’s 64 and Gajanand Singh’s 33.

Paul Wintz’s three wickets then helped restrict Everest to 101 runs from their 15 overs in reply.

In the other semi-final GCC defeated DCC to proceed to the final.

The New Line Cavaliers received the Andrew Lyght Memorial trophy at the end of the competition.

Awards were also presented to Deonarine and Sarwan for their participation in the competition.
