Bronze medals for U-18 TT teams

Guyana’s boys and girls’ U-18 table tennis teams earned bronze medals in the team events after reaching the semi-finals of their respective categories as the 15th annual junior Caribbean championships continued yesterday in Utuado, Puerto Rico.

The boys’ team of Nigel Bryan, Brandon Baldie, Denzil Hopkinson and Zane Humphrey defeated Jamaica 3-2 and Barbados 3-0 to reach the semi-finals where they bowed out after losing 0-3 to Puerto Rico.

The U-18 girls’ team of Saskia Chung, Adielle Rosheuvel and Ambrose Thomas and Angelina Rampersaud defeated Trinidad and Tobago by 3-0 scores but lost 0-3 to both Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico.

The Under-15 girls and boys’ teams failed to medal with the girls losing 0-3 to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and 1-3 to Trinidad while the U-15 boys defeated Aruba 3-0 but lost 0-3 to the Dominican Republic and 1-3 to Jamaica.

Meanwhile Bryan and Hopkinson gained a bronze medal after reaching the semi-finals of the boys’ U-18 doubles competition last night.

They were however eliminated 1-3 by the Puerto Rico number one pair.
